HEY, GUYS! WE'RE MOVING (and enjoy this movie to make up for the lack of posting for over a month)!

Hey, readers. If you're still around after the depletion in posting, we apologize. I have been juggling film projects, a theatrical rehearsal and my pop culture radio show A Night at the Opera. In the meantime, I want to take this point in mentioning Movie Motorbreath is totally moving to WordPress! So as soon as we complete the move, which should be soon, you guys should be happy to read more already completed reviews such as The Wizard of Oz, The Cornetto trilogy and Metallica: Through the Never among the older ones we had up here...

And to appease you all, I offer you guys one of the fruits of my labor my Campus MovieFest submission, Probation (which for some reason I can't find on YouTube's search and thus am unable to post the video itself on here). I hope you guys enjoy and I will see you all soon to link the new Motorbreath page. Thanks again! Keep on rolling!

The Grandmaster by Cesar Cabrera

Another tale of the overly-populated legend Yip Man from the early 1930's till his initial classes of Wing Chun. But this goes in a new view and a new taste as a martial art film and the biopic of Yip Man. This was the most interesting thing I have seen all year, especially since it's been a while since I've seen a martial art film. 90% of the fight scenes that are shown in slow-motion, so instead of showing how fast-paced or quick the legendary martial artists fight, they show the art and the philosophy of their style of fighting; how it flows with nature so eloquently and with ease. Like water. It's amazing to see that. Initially, I felt a bit boredom of watching that. Then when the film was over, I felt ashamed for thinking that way. The cinematography was incredible, nonchalant in every angle and a breath taker.

They also showed a bit of a secret tragic romance as well. Personallym I thought this was going to make me dislike it more, but they didn't show the sad romance Nicolas-Sparks-style or anything related to that, it was very deep and understandable of the choices they made and to me, that is what made it more interesting. Their still motions says so much of their feelings, it's almost like you don't need to hear them say it, you can see it in their eyes. Brilliant.
There were some things I had issues: First was the timeline, they go back and forth from months to years apart from the current settings that it gets confusing on whether I was watching back then or now. And second was the lack of notice of the secondary characters. There were so many characters and their types of martial arts that you would want to see more of them but they don't, not enough. You see them. Talk and/or Fight. Done. Bye-bye, character leaves. I'm sure they were important for Yip Man and impacted his life.

The setting was absolutely stunning in its facsimile style from the 1930's, in addition to the showcase of the type of clothes and tradition that existed at that time. The setpieces were very accurate.

The actors were brilliant. For me the one who caught my attention was the beautiful Ziyi Zhang (from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or Rush Hour 2 - not to mention she looks the same since then), I felt like this was a film about her character much more than Yip Man, performed by Tony Leung. Don't know if that's a good thing or not, but she really grabs command of the film well. The rest of the cast was good, but like I said before they didn't show enough and I could have gotten more of them.

Overall, this is a new look on the martial arts film that I haven't seen for quite some time. Go watch it on the Internet where you can find the full version, 130 minutes rather than the cut version, which was 104 minutes.... Shit. This is for me the most beautiful film I have seen of this year and this decade.

Movie Poster Barrage (Hooray!)

So, STinG here, back for a bit after a barrage of Cesar and David's reviews to fill in my shoes while I go busy, and I noticed I wasn't posting as of recent and I noticed that I had a wishlist of movie posters once upon a time, so I looked at it again and thought... 'Wow, these 75+ posters need to be seen by others...'

So, here it is, my personal poster folder, which some of them are popular, some of them are not, some are foreign, some are special edition, some are extremely bizarre, one of these posters is in fact fake ('Only God Forgives') but is forgiven because it is actually an extremely well-done teaser poster and I only actually own one of these posters (the 'Grindhouse' one, though I also have a poster of 'Buried' which I'm fond of.).

A lot of these are movies I love, many are my favorites, but some are also movies I haven't seen and some are just movies I outright hate which happened to have cool posters (Ugh, if only the Harry Potter movies or The Dark Knight Rises were as cool as their posters were).

So sit back relax and stare at posters because you have nothing better to do...

Back when I was working on a cathartic adaptation of Rian Johnson's novella-turned-movie Brick, I had one image in mind in order for the poster... If only I had enough creativity to think up his mysteriously cool campaign...

Except he had also already thought up the one image I wanted to use...

I know a girl who is still frightened deadly by the poster below...

Why weren't we funding Japan's idea of what Star Wars is about?

Saw the following on a list of the worst foreign movie posters of American films... I beg to fucking differ on this one...

I have a confession to make... The Phantom Menace was the first Star Wars film I had ever seen fully. I was aware of who Darth Vader was, but I never knew his real name until the moment I saw this poster below... Not only is it hella fucking cool, but it also was so revelatory to me that I needed to want it someday to put on my wall, bad movie (I liked it anyway) or not....

The following German poster is the number one poster on my wishlist....

PLEASE GIMME!!!

Yes, the poster above is fake, but isn't it amazing anyway! Like so many questions from this image alone! And who didn't want to see Ryan Gosling's face messed up?

Man, if only this movie were as amazing as the poster they put for its IMAX screenings...

So misleading below, but so awesome anyway!!!

I just love how tongue-in-cheek the poster below is...

Oh so that's where the head came from...

Last but not least of course... my favorite movie...

Laters!!!
